CHT-SS Pilot

The CHT-SS is the pilot that needs no fuel gas at all!  It is fed from a side-stream of flare gas which is discharged via a special nozzle incorporating a High-Energy ignitor rod.  The gas stream induces air by use of the Coanda effect before passing over the ignition spark.

The flame produced is naturally a laminar diffusion flame and will not resist winds like a conventional pilot but this is compensated for by keeping the ignition spark running continuously at between 5 seconds AND 60 seconds between sparks.  In this way the pilot will quickly re-light if extinguished.

The pilot flame can be detected by thermocouple but not by ionisation since the flame is not pre-mixed.
